The Old Schoolhouse on Dundas Street in Palermo was built in 1946 to replace the original building that was destroyed by a tornado in 1942. Sometime in the late 1950s after a new school was constructed, the building was taken over by the Town of Oakville.
The Oakville Players became tenants soon after. The building was used for auditions, rehearsals, set construction, painting, meetings and social gatherings for over forty years.
The last production rehearsed at the Schoolhouse was "The Melville Boys" by Norm Foster staged in March 2004 at the Oakville Centre for the Performing Arts. Directed by Elfie Helferty and produced by Deborah Wyman, it was a nominated for the Oakville Drama Series Subscriber's Choice Awards for Best Production and also for the Best Presentation of a Comedy in the Association of Community Theatres, Central Ontario's 2003-2004 Festival.
On June 4, 2004. the final General Meeting to took place at "Palermo". Dr. Jane Coryell presented her drawing of the Schoolhouse to commemorate the many years of use by The Oakville Players.
